Why I made this

I'm the mother of an only child — a beautiful boy who brought my husband and me more joy than we knew to expect.

Like a lot of new parents, I read the parenting books and did what they said. And a lot of it simply didn't work on him. For a while, I assumed that meant I was getting it wrong.

As he grew into a middle-schooler, I began to see him more clearly. He was more sensitive than other kids his age. When he was put on the spot, he would withdraw. He wasn't difficult — he was different, and the general advice had never been written for him.

Around that time, a family member who had been studying Human Design offered to do a reading for my son. So much of it rang true that I wish I had known this much sooner. More than that, it was genuinely useful: it gave me a way to understand why he reacted the way he did, and how to meet him there instead of pushing. Our relationship changed. I remember thinking that every parent should have this for their child — not one-size-fits-all rules, but guidance shaped to the specific person in front of them.

That belief is the heart of this site. We are all genuinely different. We share some traits, of course, but each of us is put together in our own particular way — and I think a great deal of the friction within a family comes from forgetting that.

I started with a single, in-depth reading — Your Child’s Reading. Then I realized how much it helps to understand not just ourselves, but how we fit together — how we work as a family, and where we bump up against each other — so I added How Your Family Fits. And because real life happens in the moment, I wanted a way to talk through an actual situation and figure out how to handle it based on who each person is. That became the Parenting Chat.

It began as a parenting tool, but I found that it can also help other relationships — with a partner, a sibling, a friend, someone you coach, or even with yourself.

None of this is meant to predict your future. It is meant for reflection and self-understanding. My hope is simple: that we can all be a little more patient with one another once we truly understand that we don't all work the same way.

With warmth,
the mom — and maker — behind this site
